» Floor Care Tips
It is recommended that you clean your floors on a regular basis. Carpet Mills/Tile factories recommend cleaning carpets every 4 to 6 months and ceramic tile and grout once a year. Protectant should be added after each cleaning for both to keep carpets looking new and assist in preventing the "SPOTS"/"STAINS" and heavily soiled carpets from being permanently damaged. Heavily soiled carpets should be professionally scrubbed to prevent further damage to carpet fibers.
FOR TILE FLOORS:
When cleaning, only use water and a mild household detergent. Rinse the floor with clear water and wipe it dry. Never use acid-based cleaners or abrasive powders.
- Use a penetrating sealer once a month on your tile to prevent grout staining.
- To clean grout staining, use a mixture of water and bleach. Let the solution sit on the floor for up to 20 minutes and mop the floor, rinse it and wipe it dry.
FOR CARPETS
- Vacuum high traffic areas of the home (hallways, stairs and entry ways) on a regular basis.
- While vacuuming, push the vacuum forward a few feet in a very slow and direct motion and reverse it.
- When choosing a vacuum cleaner, pick one with adjustable, rotating brushes. These are great for removing ground in soil.
- Always vacuum your floor prior to using any type of wet cleaning method on your floor.
- For “Self-Spotting" or spot cleaning carpets, we recommend using warm water and very, very light detergent/cleaner. Moisten area with the cleaning mixture, blot area/spot with a clean "white", clean towel and repeat until spot is lifted. Never scrub spot back and forth. This will increase the size of the spot and damage carpet fibers.
